Gaj, bigha, katha, guntha, cent, acre, hectare, square feet, square metre — sab units ek dusre me convert karo. Plot kharidne-bechne se pehle yahi use karo.
Land in India is measured in a confusing mix of units — and the same unit can mean different sizes in different states. Here are the standard conversions this tool uses:
1 gaj (square yard) = 9 square feet. This is the most common unit in North India for plots and houses.
1 acre = 43,560 square feet = 4,840 gaj = 100 cent (in South India) = about 40 guntha (in Maharashtra and Gujarat).
1 hectare = 10,000 square metres = 2.471 acres = about 107,639 square feet.
1 guntha = 1,089 square feet (standard) — widely used in Maharashtra, Gujarat and Karnataka.
1 cent = 435.6 square feet — used in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh. 100 cent = 1 acre.
1 katha = about 1,361 square feet in Bihar and Jharkhand (where 20 katha = 1 bigha). In West Bengal the katha is smaller — about 720 square feet.
1 bigha = the most state-dependent unit. Approximate values: Uttar Pradesh ~27,000 sq ft, Bihar ~27,220 sq ft, Rajasthan ~27,225 sq ft, Gujarat ~17,424 sq ft, West Bengal ~14,400 sq ft, Madhya Pradesh ~12,000 sq ft.
1 marla = 272.25 square feet, 1 kanal = 5,445 square feet — common in Punjab, Haryana and Jammu.
Because bigha, katha and even guntha vary by district, never finalise a property deal on a website conversion alone. Ask the seller or the local patwari / sub-registrar which standard applies in that district, and check the sale deed. Use this tool to compare units quickly, then confirm the exact local figure before paying any money.
